Dealer = A wholesaler or retailer selling a particular type of product, for example cars. Reseller = A wholesaler or retailer selling in the case of computer equipment or telecommunication services. Distributors = Wholesalers and retailers, also referred to as the middle man. Cutting out the middle men = If someone buys directly from the producer in order to save costs. Chain store = A shop that is a part of a group of shops, all with the same name. Convenience store = A shop in a town that is open long hours. Discounter = A wholesaler or retailer with very low prices. Department store = A very large shop, usually in a town centre. Hypermarket = A very large shop with a wide variety of goods, usually outside a town. Supermarket = A very large shop, selling mainly food. Shopping centre = An area or building with a number of shops. Malls/shopping malls = Large shopping centres especially on the edge of towns. Franchises = Shops that are owned by franchisees. Franchisees = People that run shops that sell only the goods of a particular company. Franchisor = The company that provides the goods and organizes advertising centrally and in return takes a percentage of the profits of each franchisee. Direct marketing company = Company that organises mailings, etc. Direct mail = Sending information by post for everything from magazines. Mailings = Sending lots of emails to people who might be interested to buy products these emails contain. Mailshots = Sending emails to a large number of people. Telemarketing = Selling by telephone. Call centres = Where lots of people work and sell products by telephone. Cold calls = Making calls to sell products to people who have had no contact with the caller before.
