Distributed = Paid. Earnings = Profit. Retained earnings = Earnings which are kept in the company. Built up = Increased. Reserves = Money that has been kept in the company. Cash pile/cash mountain = When a company has lots of reserves. Make acquisitions = To buy other companies. Debt repayment = When a company repays its debt and/or interest on it. Debt servicing = When a company repays its debt and/or interest on it. Debt burden = When a company has difficulty repaying its debt. Debt crisis = When a company can no longer pay its debt as planned. Debt rescheduling = When a company arranges with lenders to put its debt into new forms, with new repayment dates, etc. Debt restructuring = When a company arranges with lenders to put its debt into new forms, with new payment dates, etc. Debt default = When a company cannot make payments on its debt. Sick/ailing/troubled = When a company is in financial trouble. Company doctor = An expert in turning around companies. To bail a company out = To get the debts paid of a company. To collapse = To go out of business. Filing for bankruptcy protection = In the US a company may ask a court to give it time to reorganize it, this means that a company doesn't have to pay back its debts immediately. Insolvent = When a company is unable to pay its debts. Go into administration = When a company cannot repay its debts it can come under the management of an outside specialist called an administrator. Administrator = An outside specialist who could manage a company that cannot pay its debts. Going into liquidation = When a company cannot be saved. Going into receivership = When a company cannot be saved. Receivers = Specialists who wind up the company. Wind up = Selling the company's assets and pay out what they can to creditors. Wound up = The company stops functioning and it no longer exists. Ceases trading = When the company stops functioning. To go bankrupt = When a company cannot be saved. Goes bust = When a company goes bankrupt.
