Account = Bank account. Bank = Institution where you can have a bank account. Current account = You can use this to write cheques. Joint account = A bankaccount you can share. In the black = When you have no debts on your account. Go in the red = When you spend more money than you receive. Have an overdraft = When you spend more money than you receive on an account. Overdraft facility = When you have an agreement with your band whether this situation stays between a certain amount. Charges = When you go overdraft you may have to pay this. Go overdrawn = When you go into the red on your account. Interest = A percentage of the money you lend that you have to pay. Interest rate = The percentage of interest you have to pay. Deposit account/ savings account = Account for keeping money for the longer term, this account pays interest. Credit card = Plastic cards you can pay with. Pay off = When you pay the total amount you've spend on your credit card. Plastic = Credit card. Mortgage = A loan to buy a house. Building society = The type of bank where you can get a mortgage. Credit crunch = When the house prices fell and left some buyers owing more on their mortgage than their house was worth. Negative equity = When buyers were owing more on their mortgage than their houses were worth. Internet banking = When you can check your account on your computer at home. Account balances = The amount that you have on each account. Transactions = Money going in and coming out. Apply for a personal lone online = When you apply for a loan on the internet. Call centre = You can phone to when you're in trouble. Unit trusts = Shares in investment companies that put money from smalle investors into a range of companies. ISA = Individual savings account, a type of unit trust in the USA. Life insurance = An insurance that would pay out if someone dies. Insurance policies = Insurance you can have, Contributions = When you pay small amounts of money, so it would pay out if you need it. Private pension = When you pay contributions for several years and after a while you get regularly paid when you stop working. Retirement = WHen you stop working. Company pension scheme = When the company you work for pays contribution for you pension. State pension = The pay you get from the state when you retire. Windfall = Unexpected increase in the value of an pension fund. Pension fund = The built up money for your pension.
