Insider dealing/ Insider trading = When someone buys or sells securities using information that is not publicly available. Chinese walls = Measures that financial institutions take in order to stop knowledge in one department being used by another department to buy or sell shares. Price fixing = When a group of companies in the same market secretly agree to set prices at a certain level so that they do not have to compete with each other. Market rigging = When a group of investors work together to stop a financial market functioning as it should. Banned/ barred = Prevented from continuing in their jobs. Fined = Forced to pay a sum of money. Bribe = Formal word for an illegal payment to persuade someone to do something. Sweetener/ backhander/ kickback = Informal word for an illegal payment to persuade someone to do something. Bribery = Making an illegal payment. Corrupt = If people accept illegal payments. Corruption = People are involved in this if they accept illegal payments. Sleaze = An informal word for corruption, used especially in connection with politicians. Fraud squad = People who are in this are here to detect financial crimes. FSA = Financial Service Authority FSA = Regulates the financial services industry, their job is to prevent market abuse and other financial wrongdoing. Counterfeited = To fake banknotes. Counterfeit notes = Faked banknotes. Counterfeiting/ forgery = faking of banknotes Fraud = When people lie or steal. Identity theft = When a criminal uses another person's details, for example their credit card, to make purchases. Embezzlement = When someone illegally gets money from their employer. Scam = Fraud. Rackets = Illegal activities for making money. Racketeers = People who make money through illegal activities. Money laundering = Hiding the illegal origin of money. Forge = Cheques, letters, statements, documents, signatures, banknotes, invoices. Fake = Credentials, documents, records. Counterfeit = Goods, drugs/medicines, banknotes, cigarettes, products.
