recruitment (BrE) / hiring (AmE) = process of finding people for a particular job a recruit (BrE) / hire (AmE) =someone who has joined an organisation/company/group etc. to employ / hire someone =to pay someone to work for you to join (a company) =to start work as an employee a recruiter = a person who finds future employees for a company a recruitment agency = an organisation that finds employees for companies, cf. a job centre an employment agency = business that makes money by finding jobs for people headhunter = a person who tries to persuade someone to leave their job and take another job which has better pay and status to headhunt = to find people with the right skills and experience for a leading position, and try to persuade them to leave their present job headhunting = finding people with the right skills and experience for a leading position, and trying to persuade them to leave their present job situations vacant = the part of the newspaper where jobs are advertised to apply for = to make a formal request, usually written, for something as a job an application form = a printed list of questions you answer in order to get a job a jobs website = a website where jobs are advertised to make an application =sending in a covering letter and CV to try and get a job CV (= curriculum vitae) (BrE) / résumé, resume (AmE) = the ‘story’ of a working life covering letter (BrE) / cover letter (AmE) = a letter explaining why you want a particular job and why you are the right person for it a situation / post / position = job a selection process = the method that a company uses to recruit people background = someone’s education and previous work an applicant = someone who has formally asked, usually in writing, for a job experience = knowledge, skill qualifications = skills, personal qualities, experience or diplomas that make you suitable for a particular job a candidate = someone who is considered for a job a group discussion = a formal meeting an interview = a formal meeting in which someone is asked questions to find out whether they are suitable for a job psychometric tests = an assessment of someone’s intelligence and personality to shortlist = to make a list of the most suitable people for a job reference = information about you provided by someone who knows you well, intended for a potential employer referee = someone who gives information about you when you are applying for a new job to offer = to ask someone if he would like to have something to turn something down = to refuse an offer, request or invitation a job offer = a company asking you to take a job with them to accept = to take something, to agree to do something to appoint = to choose someone for a position
