Explanation = Explaining something that is initially not obvious or not clear. It can be used to convince someone. Compression = You try to write something in a more compact form. It doesn't explain the thing it is modeling. It is reversible. Abstraction = You fit multiple things in one model/formula by leaving out details and keeping the essential features, giving a generic explanation. It is not reversible. Unification = A special form of abstraction: you apply something multiple different, unrelated things, in order to explain them all with one big model/formula. Analysis = You study the relation between- and workings of different things in a certain system. It makes you understand the thing you're analyzing better. Prediction 1 = Unconditional prediction. Something is going to happen regardless, and you're trying to predict when or how something will happen. Prediction 2 = Conditional prediction. You're trying to predict when or how something will happen. Verification = You check if something you think is true Communication = You try to make someone understand something. Exploration = You try to understand what the possible options for something are. You either have an closed decision or an open decision. Decision = You figure out which option/alternative/situation you should pick, based on the conditions that you want to fulfilled Optimization = You try to find the best possible situation for the thing you're modeling. Specification = You try to understand what requirements/properties the thing you're modeling should have. Usually is doesn't have these properties yet. Steering & Control = You try to affect the system you're modeling by changing properties of it, and making it respond to the world around or someone/something controlling it, trying to keep certain properties within a desired boundary/range. Training = You try to make someone able to operate/use something, without them actually understanding the complete system.
