Literacy training = teaches employees things like reading, writing and problem-solving skills Interpersonal training = teaches employees how to maintain positive relationships, communicate better, resolve conflicts and build trust Technology training = teaches employees how to use computer software and hardware required for the job Problem-solving training = teaches employees how to analyse problems and make decisions Diversity or sensitivity training = teaches employees how to deal with people of different races, ethnic background, gender, sexual preferences or disabilities Authoritative intervention = prescriptive, informative and confronting Facilitative intervention = cathartic, catalytic and supportive Prescriptive intervention = directly give the person advice and direction Informative intervention = to provide information to instruct and guide the other person Confronting intervention = to challenge the other person's behavior directly Cathartic intervention = helping the person to express emotions and overcome thought that they might not be aware they had Catalytic intervention = helping the person to look back on their life or on their problem, analyze it and see if they can come up with their own problem-solving ideas Supportive intervention = build up the confidence of the other person by focussing on the good qualities they possess Peer coaching = giving or receiving coaching from a colleague of the same level Role modelling = a coaching method where a good example is provided for others to imitate Learner control and self-review = a coaching method where the learner reflects on his or her own abilities and takes control of his or her own development Guided reading = directing people to written materials that will be helpful Instruction = coaching by telling or showing someone directly what to do Withdrawal = the final stage and deals with the ending of a career Phased retirement = when an employee's hours are reduced, in preparation for his or her full retirement Assessing training needs = analysing key factors for performance in an organization in order to bridge the gap between what is currently being done and what needs to be done Career path = a series of job experiences that an employee moves along during hir or her career E-learning = learning by using computers and digital technology Psychological contract = an implicit agreement between an individual and an organization that details exactly what is expected in the relationship Career management and development systems = programs offered to employees such as counselling, planning and workshops to help them manage their careers Age diversity = the acceptance of all age groups in the workforce Career plateau = a point in a career where the chances of the individual moving up the corporate ladder are slim or non-existent Corporate ladder = a series of job positions through when an individual progresses within the company Advancement = the stage in which the employee concentrates on high achievement and further development and finds his or her path with the company Maintainance = the stage in which the employee maintains productivity while evaluating career goals Blended learning = learning intervention where skills or knowledge is explained through lecture and direct instruction Establishment = the stage in which the employee learns the basic elements of the job and where he or she fits within an organization Training course = an event aimed at developing a specific skill set Coaching = developing a person's skills or knowledge so their job performance improves
