Frontal lobe = motor part Primary motor cortex = receiving/processing information Prefrontal cortex = collects all information and turns it into memory and behaviour Parietal lobe = sensory part Postcentral cortex (primary somatosensory) = receiving/processing information, sensory and spatial information Temporal lobe = auditive part of brain, left side for spoken language (Wernicke's area) Primary auditory cortex = receiving/processing information Occipital lobe = visual part Primary visual cortex = receiving/processing information Corpus Callosum = connects both hemispheres Anterior commisure = smaller connection between left and right side of the brain Insula = hidden lobe, under temporal lobe Broca's area = speech production Rhombencephalon = meyencephalon and metencephalon Meyencephalon = Medulla Medulla = Above spinal cord, autonomic reflexes (cranial nerves) Metencephalon = Pons, Cerebellum Pons = Above medulla, bridge between hemispheres Cerebellum (little brain) = movement, balance, coordination Mesencephalon (midbrain) = tectum, tegmentum, substantia nigra, red nucleus, reticular formation Tectum = roof of the brain, superior (visual) and inferior (auditory) colliculi Tegmentum = beneith tectum Substantia nigra = regulates dopamine Red nucleus = motor coordination Reticular formation = controls levels of consciousness Prosencephalon (forebrain) = Diencephalon and Thelencephalon Diencephalon = Thalamus, Hypothalamus, Epithalamus, Subthalamus Thalamus = sends sensory information (no olfactory) to cerebral cortex Hypothalamus = Regulates internal systems through hormones (pituitary gland) Epithalamus = Pineal gland, circadian rhythm, third eye Thelencephalon = Basal ganglia, Cerebral cortex, Limbic system Basal ganglia = motor control, consists of striatum pallidum amygdala Cerebral cortex = both hemispheres Lymbic system = hippocampus, amygdala, nucleus basalis, olfactory bulb Hippocampus = memory Amygdala = memory, emotion Olfactory bulb = smell Grey matter = outer part, consists of dendrites, automatic damage recovery White matter = inner part, consists of axons, no automatic damage recovery
